Cafeteria

Avery Boissonneault

This issue has been relevant for years at YMS but, recently it's becoming an upfront issue. If you do not already know what I am talking about it’s the controversial six students to a table rule in the lunchroom. The six students to a table rule is as simple as it sounds and there is no more than five of your peers that can sit with you at lunch.

I listened to both sides of the problem as I asked people how they felt. Seventh grader Mia Clarizio put it, "I don't like it at all". Maybe this was because of how it leaves people sitting alone or you can never sit with all your friends. Although another 7th grader said "My friend group has a perfect six people amount but, if this rule didn't exist other people would sit with us.

Previously, there have been groups and individuals who have tried to change or abolish this rule. Last year's 5th and 6th grade student council did not follow through enough to get Ms. Maling, our principal, to modify anything. As I know of, there have been multiple groups or individuals who have felt strong enough to complain.

The six people to to table rule in the cafeteria is definitely a problem that needs to be resolved. Students should not be sitting alone and there needs to be someway to include everyone who would like to sit at the same table. Let's see how long it takes for a compromise to be reached.
