Merrowvista Memories

Remember Merrowvista, 7th Graders?

Well, it was so fun that I had to write about it. Most of us did not know what Merrowvista was going to be like when we arrived, but it turned out to be awesome! It did take about two hours to arrive there, but we just talked and played games.

At first, we all sat down on this rock hill that was very cool, and the Merrowvista facilitators introduced themselves to everyone in the seventh grade. We played a few games before we got to put our things in our cabins. The cabins were very small, but it is a great place to chat with friends at night time. The whole point of going to Merrowvista was to know what is teamwork, and how we can interact with peers. We did lots of team activities with our advisories, and this helped my advisory talk more with each other and how to get along with each other to work things out. There were other fun things that we did, like at meals when we did lots of song challenges, and when we had extra compost, we dumped it out in a metal bucket. We then dumped all the compost from all the tables, and sang a song called Ort Report. The facilitators used a scale to weigh all of the compost, the less the better, the more the worse.

Some team building activities we did were very challenging because they required a lot of time to figure out the way of beating the challenge. One challenge was called The Muse, which you have to use pieces of wood to cross to the other side. We also did other fun things, like climbing on the obstacle course. It was high and was very scary, but it was worth it and it was very fun. Free time was when we could do what whatever we want, it was two times a day. In the afternoon free time, you could hang out in your cabin or take a shower before dinner. In the morning, you could just play sports, talk outside, or stay in the cabins.

During night time, it was very dark and cold. Our chaperones in our cabins gave us 30 minutes for us to take showers, put on our pajamas, and to brush our teeth. We had to be in our cabins by 9:00, and they gave us 30 minutes before we go to bed to do whatever we want in our cabins. In my opinion, night time was one of my favorites because it was fun talking with my friends in the dark with our flashlights. When it was the last day at Merrowvista, breakfast was very early because we had to be back at the York Middle School by 2:10. We had to get up even earlier to pack our luggage and bring it to the truck that was carrying all of our things. Most of us were very tired on the bus ride home because we got up early, and we got back I felt like sleeping all day long. This ends a great Merrowvista trip that everyone will remember.
