Superhero Article

All YMS students, I would like to inform you of an anti-bullying and cyberbullying project all fifth grade classes did during the second quarter in Digital Citizenship. During this project we were to make an upstander superhero. We were given a choice of working in a group or individually. We agreed on an organized schedule or timeline to say when certain stages of our work had to be done and what criteria to use. We did multiple self assessments to grade ourselves on how well we did in this project. We then decided to extend the deadline to turn in our upstander superheroes so that we were not rushed to finish and lose quality from our finished product.

Mr. Shuman then posted them on YouTube or in a Google photos gallery so that others could enjoy the hard work that students put in to show anti-bullying/cyber bullying strategies. We did this project to show how much an upstander can really make an impact on stopping bullying/cyber bullying. If so much as one person went up to a bully/cyber bully and said something along the lines of, “Knock it off! Don’t be so mean!” they would be an upstander.

They could say to the target, “You should stand up to that bully. You can’t let that person bring you down!” Just that little amount of bravery could truly make a difference. This was a great project to help people learn about how it hurts to be bullied/cyber bullied and how good it feels to stand up to one. Thanks to Digital Citizenship teacher, Mr.Shuman for making this project happen.
