Sea Perch

SeaPerch, an event held at the University of New Hampshire, is an underwater robotics program that teaches kids how to challenge their brains and work in groups to successfully get a submarine to complete obstacles. Students from YMS have chosen to participate in groups of two and three to complete this task. There are around 13 teams, though only two teams can formally participate in the competition at UNH. Every team has started building their underwater remotely operated vehicle (ROV), and right before the UNH challenge, the YMS teams will compete against each other to determine the finalists.

Though the teams are only in the beginning stages of the process of creating a successful ROV, they have already accomplished a lot. As eighth-grader Melia Sullivan explains, “It’s very fun, especially because you get to hang out with all of your friends and learn about robotics.” Students are getting an exclusive opportunity to explore the engineering and science behind robotics and be apart of an educational, hands-on experience.

Overall, teams are excited to be working on a project in which they can have a great time while mixing education and fun. As well as being able to spend time with their friends, they are also getting to work with Mr. Bloise, Mr. Wilford, and Mrs. Barteaux to complete their challenging but exciting project. SeaPerch is a great experience for students and is also super fun!
